    Sounds like reinventing the wheel to me. Why not (a) start the blog using FeedBurner, or (b) just post something before you make the switch so that subscribers of your feed at its old address know to move to the new address?

    Additionally, using a service like FeedBurner gives you *MORE* portability, since if you ever move your domain or change platforms (Ha! As if anything will ever tempt you away from Mango!) you can point FB to the feed url of the new platform/domain for zero interruption in service.

    It's in the core, it's just buried. Go to edit posts, and click the # of comments. I agree this isn't as accessible as it should be -- it's actually kind of a pain. :)

    The problem with this idea is that there are not events broadcast at these locations, so it would require modifying your skin.
